Hill House By Andrew Maynard Architects

Located in Melbourne, Australia is the stunning Hill House designed by Andrew Maynard Architects. Building upon the brief of creating a long term housing solution with maximum sun exposure while also keeping the original house on site, head architect Andrew Maynard created a cantilevered house structure on the southern boundary of what was the property’s backyard. Forgoing traditional housing layouts, the new house encompasses both the Hill House and the previous house which now serves as the bedroom quarters for the family. At the heart of the property is the garden, which makes use of the changes in elevation between the two structures to create multiple seating and relaxation areas. Breaking with convention, the entrance of the house opens up to the kitchen and living space before proceeding to the central garden. This house goes to show just what can be achieved in a minimum of space when traditional housing constraints are left by the wayside.
